`Windermere from Orris Head` 
A rare oil by Irene Pownoll Williams depicting an evening view of Lake Windermere, possibly from Orris head. The painting appears to be in its original heavy gilt reeded frame with several labels on the backing board including a Royal Institute of Oil Painters Exhibition Label and one bearing the artists name and address. There are also labels detailing William`s exhibition records etc. and details of the previous owner.
Irene Pownoll Williams was a portrait and landscape painter who studied at Bath School of Arts and Crafts - afterwards was on the staff of Cheltenham School of Art. She was the daughter of the Victorian painter Toker Pownoll Williams. She exhibited between 1920 and 1940 including 7 times at the Royal Academy, 5 times Royal Society of Artists, 3 times at the New English Art Club, and at the Walker Gallery and Cooling and Sons Gallery.
