William Taylor Longmire (1841-1914)
`The Langdale Pikes at Sunset, from Elterwater` 1902
A fine watercolour in excellent condition by well documented Victorian watercolourist William Taylor Longmire depicting the Langdale Pikes bathed in hazy sunlight on a summer`s evening. Longmire is famous for his Lake District views of which this is an excellent example which is in the original gilt frame. Double mounted with ivory gold lined mount over the original full gilt, which can be retained if desired. Often paintings by this artist are faded due to being hung in sunlight in Victorian parlours, so it is nice to see one with such fresh colours!
