`On the River`
A lovely tranquil river scene by Victorian landscape painter Cecilia Jaquet depicting a couple in a rowing boat on a summers day. Archetypal English scene with cattle in the meadow and a backdrop of the red roofed houses and church. Jaquet lived in Southwark , London, so this may well be somewhere along the Thames. Well painted in a subtle impressionist style which conveys the soft afternoon light very successfully. Painting is housed in a gilded frame with double Cream and white mount.

Cecilia Jaquet (fl.1890-1909) was a London landscape painter who exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists (2), Royal Institute, Society of Women Artists (8), the Grosvener Gallery and in the provinces. Lived in Southwark.
