`Evening on the Broads`
John F. Rennie 1913
A tranquil watercolour depicting a typical Norfolk scene with expansive evening sky and boats at the river`s edge. The calm and peaceful England represented here would be absent for a good few years following the outbreak of the First World war the following year. Change does not happen fast in this part of the world though, and the scene would be much the same as over a hundred years ago when this watercolour was painted! The painting is housed in a new double mount and traditional swept gilt frame.
John F. Rennie (fl.1900-1930) painted mainly coastal and maritime scenes, usually in watercolour. He seems to have worked mainly on the East Coast as far North as Whitby, and in Devon and Cornwall.
